Every result is calculated by the server with real prices: what your browser shows doesn’t count. “Today’s round” shows only today’s, the same for everyone; “All time” includes every round, random ones too.

What if, instead of guessing, you bought a little at a time?

    How it works

Each round is 730 consecutive days (two years) of real daily prices, picked between the date each coin starts and June 2026. Dates stay hidden until the end so you can’t remember what happened.

You start with $1,000 invested. Pressing the button sells everything at that day’s price and leaves you in dollars; pressing it again buys everything back. No fees or taxes: in real life, each trade would cost a bit more.

“Hands off” is someone who bought on the first day and waited until the last. The best and worst days are the 10 biggest day-to-day gains and drops of the period.

Today’s round is the same for everyone and changes at midnight your local time. Your history is saved only in this browser.

To keep the leaderboard fair, the server picks the period, hands out prices a little at a time while you play and receives every button press as it happens: you can’t sell knowing what’s coming. The server calculates the result, and adding your name requires passing a bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile). Every round is stored with no personal data: only an anonymous code derived from your connection, to limit abuse.

    Frequently asked questions

What is “hold if you can”?

It’s a game: you watch two years of real bitcoin or ethereum prices go by, with no dates, starting with $1,000 invested. You can sell everything or buy back whenever you want. At the end, your result is compared with someone who didn’t touch anything.

    What does HODL mean?

It comes from a 2013 bitcoin forum post where “hold” was misspelled as “HODL”. It means buying and keeping the investment while the price goes up and down, without trying to guess the best moment to sell.

    Can you beat sitting still?

Sometimes, yes: if you sell right before a big drop and buy back near the bottom. But you have to be right twice, on the way out and on the way back in, and the best days tend to come right after the worst ones. That’s why, in practice, most people end up with less.

    Are the prices real?

Yes: they’re real daily prices from Coin Metrics, not smoothed or trimmed. The dates are shown at the end of each round.
